OUR JOURNEY
From a small practica in Darwin to a thriving tango community. A journey built on passion, people and connection.
Annalise Richardson founded the Northern Tango practica group in Darwin and organised the first workshop with Hugo Fernandez from Alma de Tango.
Geraldine Li joined Annalise in facilitating peer-to-peer learning and weekly practicas, inviting renowned teachers from interstate to Darwin.
Belinda Glasby, Chris Hart and Kelly Hansen established regular monthly milongas, workshops, performances and the first Tango Retreat at Mary River.
Carol Richards arrived in Darwin and helped strengthen the organisation, connecting the community with international tango artists.
Damian Thompson and Hosanna Heinrich visited Darwin, elevating the skill level and inspiring a new chapter of growth for Northern Tango.
Tango harbour cruises, community demonstrations, performances, outdoor events, combined parties, shows and free classes became a vital part of our journey.
More workshops, more visiting artists and more dancers — our community continued to grow in passion, diversity and connection.
On 22 March, Northern Tango officially incorporated and established its first committee to guide the future of our community.
Northern Tango delivered the first Top End Tango Marathon, bringing dancers together for a unique Northern Territory tango experience.
